Angola, Cabo Verde sign agreement on local administration

Luanda, ANGOLA, April 30 - Angola and Cabo Verde signed Monday a cooperation agreement on the local government. ,

 

Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto signed for Angola, while his counterpart Luís Filipe Tavares signed for the latter.

 

Cabo Verde has a certain amount of experience in terms of the local government, as the country has been to the process since 1992, to strengthen democratic process.

 

In turn, Angola is set to hold local elections in 2020.

 

Attended the ceremony Angolan head of State João Lourenço, as part of three-day visit by Cabo Verde's Premier, José Ulisses Correia e Silva, to Angola.

 

Prior to the signing of the agreement, the Angolan President João Lourenço and Cape Verde's Prime Minister José Ulisses Correia e Silva held private meeting.

 

The two entities expressed their availability to consolidate and deepen cooperation ties between the countries.

 

Joao Lourenço and José e Silva reviewed the issues of bilateral and multilateral interest.

 

In terms of political diplomatic cooperation, they concluded the need to revive the mechanism of the joint committee and bilateral partnership, to take place every two year and alternately in the two countries.

 

They also concluded the need to promote mutual visits at ministerial and technical level, in different sectors and fields, at central, municipal, business, academic and civil society levels.

 

Reading the report, in the light of the visiting official, Angolan foreign minister, Manuel Augusto, said that the two countries agreed to raise the cooperation relations, based  on foundation of a diversified strategic partnership, with stress to permanent political dialogue and mutually advantageous economic and business cooperation.

 

According to the Angolan top diplomat, the parties also expressed availability to deepen the dialogue and encourage mutual support in the fields of multilateral diplomacy, involving initiatives and candidatures within United Nations, Africa Union, CPLP, and PALOP Forum.

 

 

The two countries also decided to build technical teams of experts, aimed at reviewing and adapting existing legal instruments.

 

Cabo Verde's Prime Minister ends his visit to Angola on Tuesday.
